John Allen: The detective; of indeterminable age, grim and pessimistic. His interest in this case, he would like to believe, doesn’t go beyond financial, but as he progresses he reveals a personal affection for the case and those involved within. More moralistic than he would like to admit, he treats everything with a world-weary cynicism – he also possesses a sense of wit which would make Oscar Wilde rolls his eyes in disgust. He also dresses immaculately – he may deal with dark and dirty subjects, but he sees no reason not to look fabulous while he does it. Otherwise, though, his appearance reflects one who has seen too much and felt too little.

Um Jung Ho: An Asian pimp, probably Korean, in his late twenties. Brought up in a life of crime and has never known anything else – he never developed a moral compass and feels no guilt or remorse for his actions. He considers Gigi his property and is determined to have her returned; he considers it an affront to his honour. Whatever your feelings towards prostitution may be, it cannot be argued that Um Jung Ho represents the kinder, gentler pimp – he is aggressive, sadistic and unempathic.
