Faith Morgan Casting Agency Scam

This is another scammer trying to steal peoples money. Do NOT contact this person.

This is the first message he sends out:

"Hi,

This Photo-Shoot session is put together by VODAFONE.A new clothing line billed to be launched come end of August. As a bid to usher in the launch, they are offering 6 International Talents/Models a 7 day Photo-Shoot contract. You will be required to work with a few local based Models who have already been contacted here in London.

You will be working with a few Local Photographers and Studios, and picturesque locations such as beaches, parks and hilltops. This is a direct Job offer not a casting or an audition. The idea of including Foreign Talents and Models to be a part of this shoot was conceived rather late so time is a little far spent so you are advised to respond very swiftly to this Job proposal and let us know if you are ready to proceed. FAITH MORGAN CASTING AGENCY has been saddled with the task of providing 6 Foreign Talents and Models from across the World. We totally scrutinized your full profile and seemed good enough for the Job which is why we have contacted you but the final decision to be a part of this shoot will be taken by you.

The daily routine for this shoot session will be decided by the photographer in charge and all image rights will be agreed between you and the Client when you eventually arrive.
VODAFONE is using this shoot to launch some of their new products in the Market.

For this Job you will be paid a contract sum/salary of 40,000 Great Britain Pounds, a daily allowance of 150 Great Britain Pounds and a Travel Allowance of 1,500 Great Britain Pounds. The accommodation will also be provided by the Client in form of an Hotel accommodation and your suite will be booked as soon as your arrival date is certain.

All you are required to provide for this Job are a VALID PASSPORT, A UK WORK PERMIT and A UK MODEL LICENSE/CERTIFICATE (from the British Home Office and office of the British Fashion Council here in the UK), that is if you have never had a paid Job in the UK but if you possess a valid EU Passport, it means you will not be needing the Work Permit but will need just the UK Model License/Certificate.

You will be receiving an upfront payment of 50% of the contract sum plus the travel allowance (21,500 Great Britain Pounds) after you must have gotten the necessary documents or started the process that will stand as proof that you will be honoring the Job. This Job is billed to start on the 17th of September 2009 as already know so you are advised to approach this offer with the urgency it requires and if the timing does not suit you, endeavor to let me know and we will seek an urgent replacement for you.
If you require any info do not hesitate to let me know.

So London Magazine Modeling Scam

This is a scam. That magazine went out of business a couple years ago: http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2007/mar/2...sandpublishing2

In this scam they ask you to pay for the work permit and the after you send the money with western union you never hear from them again and there is no way to get your money back. If you want to mess with him tell him sure you will pay but you need to use your Visa card cause you dont have that much cash. He will say they need the payment in cash through western union. But any legit company can accept credit cards so this is another way to spot a scam.

If he says something like they will send you a money order for partial payment of your modeling work then that is also a scam. They will send a fake money order and then ask you to cash it and send part of the money somewhere else using western union. Then a few days later your bank will call and say the money order was fake and you owe all the money back.

This is the fist scam message they send you:

Hello there,

My name is Howard Webb from SO LONDON Magazine,we are looking to have a
photo shoot done for the magazine and looking to hire new faces.

We are not looking to hire models from any agency as the company's policy is to
have a one on one connection with the models.

We have set up a US information office to answer all your questions or if you need
more details, you can call 508-514-4326 or send an email to webbh66@yahoo.co.uk

I await your swift response if this interests you.

Cheers!!
Myself:

Please fill me in with the logistics and specifics of the shoot.
The shoot will be for 4 days and is set to commence on the 13th of August(or let me know your preferred shoot date)in London UK,you'll be shooting like 5-6hours a day and we'll be handling all your entry and travel requirements.

I believe my email was explicit enough so I'll require you to ask me specific questions.

The photo shoot is a Glamour one and there will be no form of NUDITY whatsoever.

I'll need you to send me your Full Name, Address, Phone number(s) and the name of the closest international airport to you.

Best wishes!!
---------------------------------
Myself:

Hi Howard,

Well I am in Prince Edward Island until August 23rd. So I wouldn't be able to shoot after that.
If that's a problem please let me know.

Matt
ADDRESS WAS INCLUDED

(home)NUMBER WAS INCLUDED
(cell) NUMBER WAS INCLUDED

The closest airport would be Pearson International Airport in Toronto, Ontario.
Windsor has a connecting flight to get there, at air canada.

Questions:
Is flight and accomadations being taken care of?
Who is the photographer?
Is there pay? What currency?
--------

That's all for now, please let me know if any of this is a problem, if it is I understand.
Thank you again.

Matt D
------------

So London:
OK,

The information you supplied will be used to open a file for you and we'll initiate proceedings ASAP.

You need a work permit to work here here legally and we'll be filing for you under UK IMMIGRATION LAWS.You'll be expected to fund this process for the fee of £550

This fee is fully reimbursed upon your arrival here,we cant deduct this fee form your total pay because its the work permit that confirms your space for the shoot.

You can confirm we(your employers) are the ones to file for you by clicking on the link below

http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/in...ermitholders#Q4

Do get back to me ASAP so we might proceed.

Regards!!

As you all would guess that this is an all expenses trip covered by our company. This is particularly for international participate models coming from outside Italy, the passport/visa/ticket arrangement would be scheduled as follows

PASSPORT/PASSEPORT ARRANGEMENT
All registered models with a valid passport/passé port would be an added advantage, well in a situation were an applicant has no passport, the embassy’s have been informed, and they will be issuing a written passport, a form of passport that will be valid just for the period of the event, and your passport will contain the details received from you.
VISA ARRANGEMENT
There will be an immediate visa issuance to all registered and approved models, and the visa will be stamped on your written passport.
REIMBURSEMENT FEE
This is a refundable deposit that all interested /participating models must deposit if we are to process and screen their applications, we know how this may sound to you models, but we have decided to take this measure to guide our company against lost, due to our past fashion events where models/photographers were provided with an all expense trip, covered by Armani fashion company with hotel reservations/flight tickets and those that needed visa were arranged for, and they failed to turn up at the last minute which caused a huge lost to our company, so with that experience we have decided that applicants will have to deposit a refundable amount known as reimbursement of 500 dollars, before application can be taken serious, we hope you will understand and bear with us.

SIDE ATTRACTION/BENEFITS
Giorgio Armani has invited his fellow fashion design icons to the event as mentioned earlier

This person sends you an email, with bad grammar, stating you look good and attrative and that you will be receiving a check for a modeling job that is far away from where you live. The person wants you to deposit the check in your bank account and to withdrawn funds to send to an address that is provided which is promised that they book your airfare and cover charges for the shoot and the rest is yours to keep. By the time you send the funds, the bank will tell you the check is no good and you will end up sending your money to someone for no reason. I was lucky enough to take the check to a currency exchange where they told me the check was a fraud. Always remember, if it seems too good to be true, most likely it is. Even this person's web site looks ligit, but do not reply to this person. The email comes from plazadrive01@yahoo.com. Beware this is a scam!!!!!

Nigerian Scams Reach Epidemic Proportions!

Online schemes operating out of Nigeria that have defrauded victims out of tens of millions of dollars have become so pervasive that the U.S. government has given the West African country until November to take steps to decrease such crimes or face sanctions.

Financial fraud is now reportedly one of the three largest industries in Nigeria, where the anonymity of the Internet is being used to give crime syndicates a windfall.

In 1980 the US Secret Service took a proactive approach to combating Nigerian organized crime by establishing and maintaining task forces throughout the United States whose main focus was the investigation of financial fraud committed by Nigerian nationals and their accomplices.

Membership in these task forces included representatives from the United States Customs Service, Nigerian Crime Initiative (NCI), the Immigration and Naturalization Service, Nigerian Organized Crime Task Force (INOCTF), the United States Postal Inspection Service, U.S. Embassy in Nigeria, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Nigerian National Police (NNP), the Internal Revenue Service, the Department of State's Bureau of Diplomatic Security, bank investigators from the private sector, as well as numerous state and local law enforcement agencies and other Nigerian federal law enforcement agencies. This diverse membership is indicative of the multitude of crimes being perpetrated by Nigerian criminals.

Tru Talent Management

This place seems to operate much like John Robert Powers. They sell high priced classes and photo shoots. This site has the story of one of their clients: http://www.modelagencyscamutah.zoomshare.com

This is what she says:

"I had the unfortunate expierience of dealing with one agency inparticulare that goes by the name of tru talent management. These people are nothing but snakes in the grass, their so called "agents" (ha-ha) they are con-artist sales people. They know nothing about talent, but they will sure tell you that you have it. Their whole play from the moment you walk in, is to get you to pay money for some bogus classes. I was "so lucky" I got invited to one of their open calls and was told that they only had three open spaces in the agency and they would only be picking people who they know will make money(because thats how they get paid, when you do) thats crap they get 10% of all the money you pay in for classes and crap photography. That comes right from someone who I know that used to work there. They are pressured every month to get as many people as they can in the classes for as much money as they can, if they can't scam enough people they will lose thier job! Any way so i go to this open call were they tell you, you are lucky if you "get picked" and then a friend of mine and I went in to meet with the sales man and he just loved us we could do so good and make so much money but first we need to get to "know what we are doing" He lets us know we are two of the three they will acept tonight. He wants $3000 for the class and photography. Well i fell for it and signed up. I went to the classes for a little while until I got so bored I couldn't stand it the classes were so lame and the "amazing photography" I could get better pics done by my cricket phone. Then I started to notice that they had these open call things all the time, I stayed after class one day and listened to the sales pitch again ...It was exactly the same as the one I was in exactly so I started to talk to the people who were in there and they all came out saying the same thing "they were one of the three and they were acepted" I talked to about thirty people who were "one of the three. Then I wanted out and my money back well after the so-called agent signs you up they don't even know who you are any more, and they sure won't return you phone call, but i can save you all some time stay away and if you are already a victim don't go to the classes they can't bill you for services they don't provide! If you need further help catch me on here and i'd be more than happy!"

The Nigerian Scam

In the beginning it was all about money. Right out of the blue, people would get an email promising to make them rich. Various versions of the scam have existed since the 1920s, but they became ubiquitous once Internet email was so widely available. For an interesting history of these scams, see www.snopes.com/crime/fraud/nigeria.asp

So what does that have to do with modeling? For the last couple of years, the scammers have branched out, targeting people based on known affiliations with the modeling world. Various versions have been sent to models, photographers, makeup artists and other professionals in the industry.

The latest versions promise work somewhere that the scammer isn’t, and the victim isn’t. At this writing, the claims seem to mostly involve alleged fashion shows or commercial modeling jobs in the UK or elsewhere in Europe. The scammer says they have found the victim on one of the Internet listing sites, and they would like to hire them for the upcoming show or event. Huge modeling fees are promised.

If they get a positive response, the scammer sets the hook. It could be based on the Nigerian scam: they say they will send a portion of the promised fees and expenses by certified check. The victim is then asked to deposit the check in his account, and use the money for various purposes (booking airline tickets to the event, for instance). But the amount sent is much larger than what is needed for the tickets, so the victim is asked to return some of the money to the sender.

When the scam works, the victim sends off a refund of the “excess” payment, only to find later that the “certified check” they got from the scammer was a forgery. When it bounces, the victim is out the “refund” he sent to the scammer.

Another version is simpler: they ask for lots of information about the victim, and then use identity theft to charge the victim’s accounts.

So how to avoid getting taken? You need to understand some painful facts:

1. Never withdraw money from a deposited “certified check” until your bank confirms that they have collected the funds. Normally that takes a week or so. Ask your banker, and they will be happy to tell you the status of the deposit. Then wait another two weeks - banks have been known to say bogus checks have been cleared when they have not.
2. No magazine is going to pay you a lot of money for anything. Doesn’t happen. Even for top agency models, magazine rates are very low. A typical fashion editorial rate is $150 per day. The highest rate I've ever heard of is $500 per day, and that is very unusual.
3. If you aren’t with a major agency, nobody is going to fly you thousands of miles and pay you thousands of dollars for a mainstream modeling job. Doesn’t happen. For the kinds of money they offer, there are plenty of agencies with qualified models, right near where the job is – or willing to send their models to where the job is. Clients with big bucks aren’t going to take a chance on an unknown when they can get the guarantees of working with an agency.
4. Nobody is going to pay you thousands of dollars for a shoot they set up near you. Doesn’t happen. For the kinds of money they offer, there are plenty of agencies with qualified models who are willing to send their models to where the job is. Clients with big bucks aren’t going to take a chance on an unknown when they can get the guarantees of working with an agency.
5. Nobody will send you large amounts of money up front for a modeling job. If a miracle strikes and you do get hired for a job you have to fly to, they will make the reservations and buy tickets for you. Same for the hotel. They certainly aren’t going to send you the money and then cross their fingers and hope you show up.
6. Nobody overpays up front, and then asks for a refund up front. Again, if in some Alice in Wonderland world someone were to send you money up front for a trip, they would just collect the overage when you arrived for the job, or take it out of your modeling fees after the job was over. They certainly wouldn’t ask you to send it to them before the trip ever began.
7. Nobody will ask you to pay them for a service as part of getting the job. If they want you, for instance, to purchase a “modeling license” that they claim is necessary, and happen to know an attorney who can get it for you, it’s a scam.
8. If they can’t spell, it isn’t real. These scammers aren’t unemployed grammar teachers. They almost always write offering letters that are full of obvious errors. Real international companies with the kinds of money they claim to be able to throw around can hire someone who speaks your language well to communicate with you.

If you get an offer from someone far from you who wants you for a job that pays a high fee, and somehow none of the above red flags seem to apply, you have a source of help: the best modeling agency near you. With that kind of money at stake, if it’s real you just got qualified to be an agency model. Yes, they will take a commission – but they will also do the research, understand what is real and what is not, and stand behind you if you do end up thousands of miles away where you don’t know anyone. So take that offer, or that check, down to your local agency, tell them you want to give them a piece of it, and see what happens. If the job is fake, 20% of nothing is nothing, so that’s what it cost you to find out. And if it happens, against all odds, to be real, the money to find that out will be well spent.

Model Management Group - Scam Or Not?

Well these guys have been around for a while and there has been some drama surrounding them but that doesn't mean they are a scam. No one can scam you unless you let them. So do your homework, ask lots of questions, and dont pay unreasonable fees for anything. But dont expect to get everything for free either.

You can read a lot of posts from different people here: http://www.badbusinessbureau.com/reports/ripoff68581.htm
Just be sure to read the entire thing because there are responses from the owner explaining why some people were still calling them a scam. It doesnt sound like they are scamming anyone but they will charge you for some stuff.

The companies are one in the same. You can take a look at Models 411 website here: http://www.model411mgmt.com/aboutus.html
And the Model Managment Group site here: http://modelmanagementgroup.com/aboutus.html

Also you can see what other people are saying about them here:
http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/0/197/ripoff0197490.htm
http://www.easybackgroundcheck.com/411.html

They have used several names and websites:
